Instructions for Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)
At DOTT SMP, your care doesn't end after treatment.
Proper aftercare is essential to achieve optimal, long-lasting results. Please follow these guidelines carefully to support healing and pigment retention.
Immediately After Treatment (0–3 Days)
Sit Upright
Remain in an upright position for 6–8 hours post-treatment to minimise swelling and avoid fluid build-up.
Avoid Touching or Scratching
Your scalp is healing. Refrain from touching, scratching, or picking at the treated area to prevent infection and pigment disruption.
Do Not Wash Your Scalp
Avoid washing your head for the first 3 days. This helps preserve pigment while the skin begins to heal.
Immediately After Treatment (0–3 Days)
Avoid Direct Sunlight
Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 24–48 hours. UV exposure can interfere with healing and pigment retention.
Do Not Exercise
Avoid all forms of physical exertion and sweating for the first 4 days. Sweat contains salt, which can fade pigments and cause irritation.
Avoid Swimming, Saunas & Tanning
Do not expose your scalp to pools, hot tubs, saunas, or tanning beds for at least 30 days. Chlorine, heat, and UV light can damage the healing skin.
After Treatment (4–10 Days)
Showering & Hair Washing
On Day 4, you may take a gentle shower and cleanse the area using lukewarm water and a sulfate-free shampoo. Avoid hot water and high-pressure showers.
Avoid Harsh Products
Do not use products containing alcohol, AHA, retinoids, peels, or exfoliants. These can irritate the skin and cause pigment fading.
No Razor Shaving Until Day 4
You can shave your head from Day 4 onwards, but use a clean, gentle razor and avoid any aggressive rubbing of the scalp.
Long-term Care
(10 days and beyond)
Moisturise Daily
Once peeling stops (usually after Day 7–10), apply a non-scented, alcohol-free moisturiser to keep the scalp hydrated.
Sun Protection
Use SPF 30 or higher if you're exposed to the sun regularly. UV exposure is one of the main causes of pigment fading.
Avoid Skin Irritants
Continue to avoid strong exfoliating products, abrasive scrubs, and heavy chemical treatments on the scalp.
Stay Hydrated & Healthy
General skin health impacts pigment longevity—hydration and proper nutrition support your scalp’s appearance over time.
Redness or Minor Swelling
Recommendation
Normal within the first 24–48 hours. Avoid ice packs directly on the scalp.
Itchiness
Recommendation
A sign of healing. Do not scratch—use a light moisturiser instead.
